Hello from Narumi at ABC Cooking Travel!!
Summer is vibrant season in Japan, with various of festivals, as well as specific activities and refreshing dishes that can be enjoyed only during the period from the end of May until the beginning of September.
In this series, I’d like to share the “things”, what summer’s all about!
Hanabi (花火) – Fireworks
A signature summer event in Japan is Hanabi, fireworks. There is a fireworks show everywhere in Japan every weekend during July and August.
Japanese people have always loved fireworks as a summer tradition. Although there are fireworks throughout the world, Japanese fireworks strongly reflect traditional Japanese culture.
In Japan, fireworks have evolved to become “flower arrangements” using fire.
The festival I went before was held at Tochigi prefecture, Ashikaga. It’s one of the largest and most famous fireworks festival lasting over 115 years! You can enjoy 20,000 fireworks!
In this summer, why don’t you come and enjoy artistic fireworks displays? You’ll surely love the encapsulate traditional Japanese culture!
Have a great day!
Narumi
