Nishiki Market Tour + Inari Sushi Making

Unforgettable culinary tour strolling Nishiki Market known as "Kyoto's Kitchen" pairs with cooking class to learn how to make Western Japanese style dishes.

Gain a local introduction to Kyoto’s food culture with this small-group guided tour and cooking experience. Start at the deliciously vast 400-year-old Nishiki Market, nicknamed ‘Kyoto’s Kitchen,’ where over 130 shops and stalls will beckon your taste buds. Stroll through the Market and learn about its history and taste the sample snacks. What makes this tour even more special is a 1.5-hour cooking class making Western Japanese style local dishes such as Inari sushi, miso soup, egg omelette, and marinated vegetable. During the lesson, you will learn homemade, traditional technique of Japanese cooking. You can enjoy your edible creation for lunch along with a selection of paired Shochu “Japanese distilled alcohol” after the lesson. Cooking ingredients, tools and lunch with a beverage are all included. Just please bring your empty stomach!

  • Nishiki Market Tour

    We are ready 2 different guide in this tour. One is the guide who are familiar with Nishiki Market. They know history of this market and local stores. They will show you which store is the best to buy the souvenir and let you try some samples.(Japanese honey juice, Spicy sesame topping, rice cracker, black soy tea…) Normally the people spend 30 min in this market. But we will take about 1.5 hours to see and learn more deeply information. (About seasonal vegetables, fruits, our kitchen tools, what is sake, etc..) At the beginning of this tour you will have the opportunity to learn what is the difference between shrine and temples as well. 

  • Cook authentic western Japanese dishes

    After the market exploring the guide will be changed to second one who is a teacher of Japanese cooking. In this lesson, you will learn how to extract “Dashi” broth which is fundamental for Japanese dishes especially for Western area of Japan. Using this unique soup stock, you will make Inari sushi (Local Kyoto style sushi), Miso soup, and Egg omelette besides Marinated vegetable.During this 1.5 hour lesson, you will learn homemade, traditional technique of Japanese cooking.  

  • Complementary Shochu Tasting

    You can enjoy your edible creation for lunch along with a selection of paired Shochu after the lesson. Cooking ingredients, tools and lunch with a beverage are all included. Just bring yourself!
